Is Agentforce Vibes free? Pricing and limits in October 2026

By the orgadmin.ai team6 min read

Short answer: partly. Agentforce Vibes, Salesforce's AI coding agent for VS Code and the browser-based Vibes IDE, stopped being free for most orgs on 1 June 2026. Developer Edition orgs kept a small free allowance, and a few days before Dreamforce Salesforce said a free tier was coming back. Paid use runs on either an unmetered licence or Flex Credits.

The longer answer is messier, because Salesforce's own sources disagree on the Developer Edition allowance. This post sets out what each source says, what each kind of org gets, and how to fix the most common "Vibes stopped working" problems.

How the pricing changed in 2026

What the documentation says today

On 14 October 2026, Salesforce's Agentforce Vibes FAQ still describes the stricter allowance: 110 requests or 1.5 million tokens per Developer Edition org, whichever comes first, for one month after first use, with no refresh.

That contradicts the daily free tier announced before Dreamforce. One of them will be updated. Until it is, the practical rule is: if your Developer Edition org still has access, use it carefully, and do not build a training plan or a demo around the free tier. If you need predictable access, you need one of the paid routes below.

The three ways to use Agentforce Vibes

1. Developer Edition orgs: free, but small

Whichever version of the allowance applies to your org, it is enough to try Vibes, not to build with it every day. A single agentic task that reads several files and iterates on a test can use many requests.

2. Unmetered licence: a fixed allowance per user

Users assigned the Unmetered Platform Developer and Admin AI User permission set licence get, per the usage and billing page:

  • GPT-5 as the Included model, subject to contractual fair use.
  • Claude Sonnet 4.6 as a Premium model, limited to 2,500 requests or 36 million tokens, resetting every 30 days after first use.

When the premium limit runs out you can switch to the Included model, move to Flex Credits, or talk to your account team. Salesforce does not publish a list price for the licence; ask your account executive.

3. Flex Credits: pay per prompt

With Flex Credits, every request draws from your org's credit balance. Claude Sonnet 4.6 is the default, and the model list also includes GPT-5, GPT-5.4 and several Claude Opus versions (Opus prompts are billed at the Advanced rate).

Metering works in 2,000-token increments, rounded up. Salesforce's own example: a prompt with 6,500 input and output tokens counts as four prompt units. The credit multiplier per unit depends on the model's prompt usage type (Starter, Basic, Standard or Advanced) on the current rate card. Digital Wallet is the only accurate record of what you have spent.

Two consequences worth knowing:

  • Long context costs more than you think. An agent that loads ten classes into context before answering pays for all of them on every turn.
  • Switching models does not reset your limits. Token usage is tracked independently of the model you pick.

Scratch orgs

Since Summer '26, developers can turn Vibes on in scratch orgs without an admin, through the scratch org definition file (scratch org guide):

  • Add AgentforceVibesUnmeteredAccess to features for unmetered access, or AgentforceVibesFlexCreditsAccess for metered access.
  • The Dev Hub must already have that kind of access enabled, or nothing happens.
  • Assign the matching permission set to your user after creating the org.
  • Supported scratch org editions are Developer and Enterprise.

Troubleshooting: "Vibes stopped working"

The model picker is empty, or prompts get no response. The usual cause is a missing licence or permission set. Since 1 June, a user in a non-Developer Edition org needs either the unmetered licence or metered Flex Credit access assigned. Ask your admin, then restart VS Code.

"Usage limit reached." In a Developer Edition org you have used the free allowance. On the unmetered licence you have used the premium allowance; switch to the Included model or wait for the 30-day reset.

Vibes is not in Setup at all. Per the FAQ, it is not available in Group, Professional or Essentials editions, or in the EU Operating Zone. Supported editions are Developer, Enterprise, Partner Developer, Performance and Unlimited.

Strange or duplicated suggestions. Disable other AI extensions in VS Code while using Vibes. Salesforce's FAQ calls this out specifically.

The extension updated and things broke. Version 4.x is a rebuild on Salesforce's Coding Agent Platform. Rules and skills moved from .a4drules/ to .vibes/rules/ and .vibes/skills/, and the Salesforce CLI must be v2.91.5 or later.

Should you pay for it?

Agentforce Vibes is good at what it is built for: Apex, LWC and metadata work inside an SFDX project, with plan mode, sub-agents and Salesforce's trust boundary. If your team already lives in VS Code and the Salesforce CLI, and your company has Flex Credits or the unmetered licence, it is a natural choice.

It is a weaker fit if you are an admin who does not run VS Code and the CLI, or if you want to use an AI subscription you already pay for.

That is the gap orgadmin.ai's Development Studio is built for. It runs in the browser, uses your live org as context (schema, classes, automation, live queries), deploys through the Metadata API with test levels you choose, and reads deployment failures so the AI fixes the actual error. If your developers would rather keep Claude Code or Codex, the MCP server gives those clients the same org tools on your own AI subscription. None of it is metered against Agentforce Vibes limits.

Summary

  • Developer Edition: a small free allowance. Salesforce's documentation and its pre-Dreamforce announcement disagree on its size and whether it resets daily.
  • Everyone else: since 1 June 2026, Vibes needs the unmetered licence (GPT-5 included, Claude Sonnet 4.6 capped at 2,500 requests per 30 days) or Flex Credits (billed per 2,000-token unit).
  • Blank model picker almost always means a missing licence or permission set.
  • Check the official usage and billing page before you budget. This has changed three times in six months.
